HRB Goes 24 Hour
Monday, 21 January 2008

clock24.gif It has been years in the planning, and more years in the installing, but HRB has finally become a 24 hour station.

After talking about it for many years, it was mid 2003 when we started seriously investigating the possibility of becoming a 24 hour station, but it wasn't until late 2004 that we decided on what system to get – Myriad from PSquared. The Friends approved the money, and in December 2004 we acquired the equipment. After that it all went a bit pear shaped, due to time constraints and problems interfacing the equipment in the studios, and it was not really until mid 2007 that work seriously began on installing the system.

Several months of loading music onto the system, and a lot of work to connect the system into studio 1, finally came to fruition today. As of 14:30, Monday 21st January 2008, Hospital Radio Barnet now broadcasts 24 hours a day to the patients in Barnet Hospital.

The initial service is a bit basic – simply playing music and announcements – but now we are running we plan to incorporate much more variety into the schedule, as we become more familiar with its operation. We are investigating adding some plays and are looking at providing local news coverage.

Thanks are due to Chris Gurney who did most of the hard work installing the system, and to Garry Lakin and Frank Heinley who loaded most of the music onto the system and set it up.

This is a great milestone for HRB, and a great way to start off our 30th year of broadcasting.
