Sport on HRB epitomizes the ethos of hospital radio by keeping local teams and athletes at the heart of our output. It gives listeners the opportunity to hear a quality service and keep right up to date with developments as they happen both in the Barnet area and beyond. After nearly 30 years of broadcasting sport continues to play an important link role between Barnet Hospital and the local community. Patients and staff can hear coverage of games they would normally watch, while the Boroughs'' sporting fraternity gladly give time for interviews and on occasions visit the hospital to pass on a word of encouragement. Central to our service is Barnet Football Club and thanks to the support we receive from the staff at Underhill and the Supporters Club who provided our outside broadcast unit, the HRB sports team has been ever present in the Bees press box. We are the only radio station that provides commentary on all Barnet home games and our importance to the fans was evidenced in May 2001 when an all ticket relegation decider against Torquay had locked out supporters calling the studio to hear the match On that occasion Barnet lost and dropped out of the football league but nearly four years on we broadcast ecstatic scenes as Paul Fairclough´s team beat Halifax to return as Conference champions We are not a one-club station however and feature an array of other teams including match reports on Hendon FC Watford FC and Saracens RFC as well as interviews with sports personalities making the news HRB is one of the premier providers of sport on Hospital Radio and recently received commendation for the high standard of our programmes at the 2006 Hospital Radio Awards. We are a small, dedicated team of volunteers fanatical about sport and we hope that you enjoy what you hear. |
